The world’s fastest OD

The world’s fastest OD
: Back from the movies. The previews are always my favorite part (the promise always better than the fulfillment). They’ve started hyping the next Adam Sandler movie. Amazing how I can OD on that guy in less than two minutes. How the hell did he become a success? Can anybody explain it to me?

‘s not intellectualy ability that defines his realitive worth to a given person
(hah ok snob mode off, sadly seth didn take the time to do that in his post)
seriously, it’s a maturity thing, imature folks like imature jokes, ye grow up, ye lose interest, like space balls, I used to love space balls.. sadly I grew up.. and it’s just a stupid movie to me now ;p
so long as we poop out babies, this sorta stuff will always have a demographic
(yeah yeah some older people like this stuff, buh don blame me that they never grew up, guess they never needed to)
(no no I dont care if those older people you know happen to act in a manor which you define as ‘dumber’, I’ve known plenty o people who can hold their own in an indepth debate then sit down for a double dose of fart jokes)

I’ve never been a huge fan of Sandler’s adolescent stylings, but I don’t think he’s as easy to discount after seeing his performance in the movie “Punch-Drunk Love.” He was perfect in that role, presenting a finely-realized character that I could actually relate to. Granted, I’m a huge P.T. Anderson fan, and would see anything he made.
I do think that Sandler consistenly aims low (he’s made a few more of the frivolous movies since P-D L), and that’s too bad, because he could do more.

Everyone seems to more or less agree that the prime moviegoing demographic centers around late teens / early 20s (pick whatever age range you like centered on 18 to 20 years old). Sandler has an instant, no-risk, built-in audience. I’d like to claim that I would have been too sophisticated to find him funny him when I was 18, but I’d be blatantly lying. I may not be the target audience for him at this point, but the audience is there, and it’s a large one.

Space Balls is a brilliant movie. I can’t wait for the broadway musical version…

Sandler was actually authentically funny in The Wedding Singer, but otherwise I find him one of the most annoying comedians this side of Phyllis Diller. I don’t get it either.

    Jeff,
I went to school with Adam Sandler, (You can see him sporting his “Central Pride” t shirt in “Anger Management” with Jack Nicholson) and the character roles that he plays are for the most part himself in high school.
It’s like watching him in detention in Mrs. Pelletier’s all over again.
Nice enough, but a doofus. I have to give him the credit to be smart enough to know to play to that though, somebody must think he’s funny, since he keeps getting scripts.

Love the elitist comments. We all have good taste, what is America thinking? Different strokes. Perhaps it explains W as Prez.

the best thing he did was the Hannukah song (on SNL), that was pretty cute

sandler consistently puts out more hanukah songs off of his albums/at his shows (check the internet)
he also tried to do a sweet hanukah movie (animated) that bombed
he’s really very good… big daddy and billy madison were very good for the humour he was aiming for… wedding singer and pdl were simply astounding..
and yeah, opera man! (actually most of his snl stuff was great… best part is that he barely touches his snl stuff… no “coneheads, the movie”)
