Your blog is your past

Your blog is your past
: Glenn Reynolds briefly flirts with the idea of becoming a judge (“Ooyee, ooyee, all rise, the Honorable Instapundit is entering the court…”) and dismisses it, saying he can’t imagine the administration that would appoint him. Boy, it would be a fun confirmation hearing to watch as lawmakers face him and say, “Mr. Instapundit, on June 3rd, 2003, you said in your, ahem, blog that… Mr. Instapundit, what exactly does ‘HEH‘ mean…?”

It’s an interesting idea, that anything you say in your blog — even if you’re now just a teen in a Xanga blog — can live forever in Google and Alexa and when you run for President or go for the bench, your words will come back: “Well, Miss Glitterdoll, do you stand by your statement of April 6th, 2001 regarding Beck…?”

Anything posted to anything on the Internet lives forever. USENET news has some interesting previews of what this is like..
You could track down this gentleman, for example, for his anti Jeff Jarvis stance in 1993 regarding your commentary on Babylon 5.

The world is becoming more transparent by the second, and you will get to stand by your words, posts (and comments) for a rather long time.

A blog I enjoy very much, Right on the Left Beach, has as its slogan: “Throwing away any chance of becoming a judge.”
