Oh, the poor Queen

Oh, the poor Queen
: First, her children turn out to be twits. Then a dog murders her pooch. And now a historian says that Queen Elizabeth is not the rightful monarch of England. Instead, it’s an Aussie forklift driver.

    Now there’s an important story.

    Doesn’t matter if it’s important. It’s funny.

So would they be legally required to ditch Queen Elizabeth II?

  4. Paul Avatar

Hell, we ditched a King without any legal prompting.

He looks like a king to me.

I’ve got to break the string of one-liners, here.
With all the intrigue and marital arrangements to consolidate family power over multi-national kingdoms, there are most likely a number of questionable European royal lineages. To deliver up a male child to inherit the father’s title (and land holdings and wealth) was every wife’s expected duty. As happens in contemporary times, the human frailties do not always permit guaranteed legitimacy in family ascendancy.
There could be a lot of surprises if one were to be able to delve deep enough into family histories. Who might you or I be related to? Could be a legitimate claimant to a title amongst the bloggers on this thread.

This reminds me of a comment by Robert A. Heinlein (AKA: Lazarus Long):
“This sad little lizard told me that he was a brontosaurus on his mother’s side. I did not laugh; people who boast of ancestry often have little else to sustain them. Humoring them costs nothing and adds to happiness in a world in which happiness is always in short supply.”
I think that says it all.

Who guessed how prophetic John Goodman’s King Ralph would turn out to be?
Seriously, though, considering that they went over to Germany to import the Battenberg-Windsors several centuries later, what’s with even pretending for a second that the lineage is unbroken since the 15th century?

Sorry Mike. They weren’t Battenberg-Windsor’s, but a prince of Hanover’s (The Elector’s of Hanover) who were placed on the throne to keep the Catholic claiment’s away after the death of Queen Anne (no children alive to claim it). George I,II, III and IV who also died with out legitimate heirs. Princess Victoria of Kent ascended the throne to become Queen Victoria. She married another German prince named Albert of Saxe-Coberg-Gotha (no there’s a connected family).
The family name was changed to Windsor by George V in 1918 (all of that anti-German sentiment). The Battenbergs were somewhat poor German relations (like the Tecks, Queen Mary’s family) and the family, like all other German princely familes were angliced as well and lost their “royal” titles of HRH and HSH. The Battenberg’s became Mountbatten with the title of Marquess of Milford-Haven, the Tecks became Dukes of Cambridge, etc. A grandson of the first Marquess of Milford-Haven, and nephew of Lord Louis Mountbatten (the second son) Prince Phillip of Greece and Denmark married Princess Elizabeth who became Elizabeth II. Prince Phillip on the eve of his marriage took the name Phillip Mountbatten (his mother was a Mountbatten, not his father), Duke of Edinburgh. In the 1960’s the Queen was allowed to name her children Mountbatten-Windsor and a nod to her husband, but the royal house still remains Windsor.
    So, there you go.

What a convoluted process to get to where we have a family of twits who are going to be bringing the British Monarchy to a close in this century.
You didn’t mention any history of mental illness or other genetically transmitted disorders that would explain a wooden Queen’s Consort, three dull, yet mischievous children and other various and sundried aberrations called relatives. Even the dogs seem to be having behavioral issues.
Quite fortunate for the British that the Monarchy doesn’t have ruling power, or it would have already collapsed.
