Conventions as comedy
: Lost Remote says the DNC is inviting Jon Stewart and The Daily Show to “cover” the Democratic convention. Of course, Daily is a comedy show. But then, what the party is trying to do is find anything that will enliven an otherwise deadly dull event. They want audience, aka voters.
Can a Leno keynote at the Republican show be far behind? A Letterman keynote at the Democrats’? Strippers?
Hey, if they have strippers *I*, right-wing nut job, will watch the DNC convention.
The DNC would have been comedy anyway. Stwert, Letterman and strippers would have been icing on the cake.
Is there anyone quite so sad, or annoying, as he who insists “I have a great sense of humor! hahahaha see! SEE!”
Who remembers that a few elections ago, the Comedy Channel had more coverage of the major party conventions than all the major networks and CNN combined, lots of live coverage with comedians hosting. Apparently it didn’t do very well because they didn’t repeat the stunt the next election.
IIRC, they got Al Franken to cover it. (He brags about it in one of his books).
Still, he’s less biased than Dan Rather.
The Daily Show is basically Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them LIVE. I’m not suprised they’re covering/hosting the DNC.

And the Strange Bedfellows sketch with Al Franken, Arianna Huffington, and Barney Frank was actually funny.
I don’t know if this is related or not, but I know that Emerson College in Boston is going to host the Daily Show during the convention.
That gem was announced at a political communication panel I attended at the National Communication Association conference I attended last month.

Well, it would make sense that The Daily Show would be hosted elsewhere. There’s reportedly not enough space for regular press anyway: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2003/12/11/convention_space_seen_lacking_for_journalists.
The Daily Show isn’t very funny when they cover Democrats. They just don’t have the heart to make fun of them.
