Punishment that fits the crime

Punishment that fits the crime
: My wife is busy fixing dinner (as I lazily do email and blogging) and so she only hears the kitchen TV. I had on Yan Can Cook and she was very irritated at the soundtrack. So I switched to another PBS station and there were two people yodeling.

“PBS!” my wife harrumphed. “They should play that in Saddam’s cell.”

That, she said, and NPR’s Click & Clack.

Actually, Click and Clark aren’t so bad.

Uh, I mean Click and Clack.

PBS was a good idea… back when they only had to compete with 3 networks and no internet.
Speaking of public broadcasting… the BBC ain’t all bad. Their radio rocks, especially their classical music.
Though if Gordon Brown gave me 3 billion a year, I’d rock, too.

Ooh, I can think of lots of shows they should run marathons of in Saddam’s cell. In the mid 70’s there was “Hello, Larry” with McLean Stevenson. I’d start with that one.
The Red Cross would probably get upset though.

Teletubbies. Nothing but teletubbies is what they should be playing in his cell. With the volume turned way high.

PBS has the occasional fascinating history or archaeology documentary, and NOVA is great, though it’s on very rarely. If PBS stuck to that kind of programming, being what the “History”, Discovery and “Learning” channels ought to have been, I’d start watching TV again. As it is, I have no interest in pricing antiques, quilting, Yanni, Cooking with Random People, teenager round-table discussions on STDs or two hour long blues concerts.

    From The Post:
“Saddam Hussein is a psychologically broken man – muttering curses and spending his days staring at a portrait of President Bush hung in his jail cell, according to the chief civilian administrator in Iraq.”
    Hee!

What a smart lady. She has defined the values of both PBS and NPR, irritating and mind numbing.

And, of course, he would be subjected to those god-awful automatic 50 decibel volume increases when the equally inane commercials come on.
As an aside, is this an issue that can be resolved? Why are the commercial ads allowed to automatically send you chasing down the remote control to decrease the volume; and then, raise the volume to resume the regular program?
Find the most annoying music videos, with their
split-second image cuts, that will surely turn his weakened mind into silly putty.

If you’re Barbara Streisand, you simply call the network head and he has volume on the commercials turned down.
