The former Baghdad blogger speaks
: Salam Pax has all but given up blogging, even on this day. No post. Instead, he blathers for the Guardian, saying very little.

Salim know caching Saddim mean NOTHNG becase he wastn carying wepons masterucshin

Salam sounded like the sniveling wimp he seems to have become.
-
Salam, I have always suspected, is from a once privileged Baathist household, most likely to be despised in the new Iraq. He has had the brains to know where the wrong side of history would be for him. He has played the role of regime change patron, but somewhere from his soul the commitment has always stopped short. I’ve always found his commentary shallow, his attitude self-absorbed. He’s the perfect diletante.
-
Thanks for the link. No, he hasn’t blogged this yet. Oh wait, it’s 2am in Baghdad. Pardon me if I found his insights a lot more salient since he is there and you are not.
You haven’t made clear yet why you dislike Juan Cole, except of course that you got the memo. Same with Salam.
Your slamming of Salam, your dissing of Juan Cole appears to fit your definition of “blather…. saying very little.” -
He said something important, but you weren’t listening: he said that everyone was expected Sadam to do something MAGICAL…
-
I don’t think many people care what he has to say anymore. His moment is long passed. Anyway, for him it’s neutral news. He’d heged his bets so that he would prosper whether the Ba’athists prevailed or the Americans.
-
I hate saying this, but Salam really is a sell-out who is rightfully out of the picture. Remember when Salam was our Zayed? At least the latter doesn’t seem to be letting all the attention go to his head.
-
Zeyad hasn’t blogged anything yet either. Damn them both, it’s now 4:38am local time in Baghdad, and we’ve all known Saddam has been captured for 13 hours now.
I’m thinking they must BOTH be sympathizers and sell-outs. What could possibly be more important than updating their blogs in a timely manner?
Back in the day Salam was our Salam. Than Zayed was our Salam. Who is going to be my personal Salam tomorrow? -
Oh yeah! Zayed has that spiffy new camera you just sent. How dare he not blog to our schedules? What an ingrate!
-
Gee, ann.elk. You sound so…. bitter. What’s the matter, honey? Disappointed that one chance to humiliate the people you hate (we know who they are, no need to spell it out) is gone?
-
Sorry Andrea, I’m not bitter at all. Please don’t project your issues onto me, or onto anyone for that matter.
I happen to respect Salam for his statements as well as his actual deeds. I believe Jeff’s posting dissing Salam is BS, as I pointed out, Zayed hasn’t posted either. Jeff has a tendency to post halfcocked, and apparently, you eat that up. I on the otherhand, am just doing my job, acting as Jeff’s editor and helping him do better by pointing out errors and unfairness of his many posts.
Better, not bitter. -
By the way Andrea, I have no idea what that last sentence of yours means. Huh?
-
Isn’t Zeyad involved in some sort of move? Maybe he’s unable to get to a computer right now–
And as far as Salam goes, I too had decided he’s become somewhat of a carping sellout and a dilletante. However, having listened to this recording of him, I have to differ with those who are dissing him so very heavily. Although I agree that his reaction here lacks a certain gravitas suitable to such a profound and wonderful occasion, he does sound–well, he sounds downright happy! He says: “Things are changing, things are different…It’s so important psychologically for us Iraqis…It’s good for us, good for him [Bush]–somehow, it works out.” Not eloquent, to be sure, but definitely pleased with the capture. -
In fact blogaddict, Zeyad says he’s moving temporarily to Basra, so it is quite unlikely that he can get to a computer.
But so what, Jeff’s complaint is that Salam doesn’t blog on Jeff’s schedule. But Jeff basically just doesn’t like Salam. Look how he dissed Salam on the previous post. Salam *is* the Baghdad blogger and as Zayad admits, Zayads inspiration. What does Jeff say about this? He gives Zayad that credit for inspiring the Iraq weblog trend.
I don’t know what Buzzmachine means, but apparently it has little to do with accuracy. -
How could anyone have read Salam’s “letter to Bush” in the Guardian and continue to take anything he says seriously? He must be letting Robert Fisk or Ignacio Ramonet do his thinking for him. And I fear there might be some drug abuse here as well.
-
The Bush administration just NEEEEEEEEEDED it SOOOOOOO BAAAAD. Give me a break.
-
Jesus, the freaks are out.
Anyway, I have decided that “anne-elk” is either Juan Cole’s girlfriend or daughter. As for this gem:
“I on the otherhand, am just doing my job, acting as Jeff’s editor and helping him do better by pointing out errors and unfairness of his many posts.”
Damn, that’s got enough egomania in it for ten fascist dictators. ROTFL. Now I see why you are pissed. -
Salam says all the right and PC things in this audio. I simply do not trust him. I have read everything he has ever written. He’s mostly a spoiled middle class, foreign educated, homosexual Iraqi. Nothing else.
This was interesting for awhile, like Leninism was in 1917. Political fads come and go. People die. Even lots of people. Who cares? not too many really, esp. if they are half a world away. Easy. Bunch of shit. G] -
No, Anne, the point about Salam’s blogging schedule is that he has hardly blogged in months. He’s clearly just not into it. The Baghdad Blogger would blog if he wanted to blog but he doesn’t.
-
That wasn’t your point. If that was your point, you wouldn’t have added your pissy statement, “Instead, he blathers for the Guardian, saying very little.” And if that was your point, you wouldn’t, in your prior thread, have given credit for Iraq blogs to Zeyad.
Your point was to smear Salam.
Salam and Shalom, -
In the absence of Jews, homosexuals are the frontline against Fascism, according to Prof Sartre. He established this informal rule-of-thumb from his junket to Cuba.
-
Anne, nice job diving head first into the semantics of his first post when the discussion doesn’t go your way.
Isn’t that like the Bill Clinton defense? “Depends on what the meaning of the word ‘sex’ is”
Not trying to drag bill into this, it just seemed a rather decent comparison. -
With all due respect anne.elk, maybe you should get your own blog instead of trolling this one. If Jeff needed you as his fact-checker and editor, I’m sure he would’ve asked, you being god and all.
