Joe, Joe, he’s our man…
: Here’s a link to Joe Lieberman’s much-quoted (and deservedly so) statement on Saddam:

This news also makes clear the choice the Democrats face next year. If Howard Dean had his way, Saddam Hussein would still be in power today, not in prison, and the world would be a more dangerous place.

If we Democrats want to win back the White House and take this country forward, we have to show the American people that we’re prepared to keep them safe. I consistently supported Saddam’s removal for the past decade, and am prepared to do what it takes to win the war on terrorism at home and abroad.

Many have said this was a Christmas gift to George Bush. It was also a Chanukah gift to Joe Lieberman: On the first day on Chanukah, he got Al Gore’s endorsement of Howard Dean, extending Gore’s I-blew-it coodies to Dean. On the second day of Chanukah, he got Saddam’s capture. Hmmm, what could be in that pretty package we’re going to open next?

    I voted for Bush in 2000, but if he managed to piss me off in the next year, and Lieberman was the Democratic candidate, he’d have a strong chance of winning my vote.

    If this were another candidate, we would hear about the usage of a national event as a political tool – not to mention he’s distorting the truth, even moreso than politicians do.

    I think like a lot of Americans, I’m really starting to warm up to Joe Lieberman. You’re on about all this – both these events are only going to help him, not Dean at all.

    Like I said on another thread, if all the people who like Lieberman but think he’s unelectable got together to vote for him, he would be electable.

    *sigh* yes, the quote is good but can he beat Bush? I just don’t know. Gephardt’s reaction wasn’t as heart felt.

    I’ve always hated Lieberman and I hate him even more now. He’s nothing more than a sore loser. He’s always sounded more like a Republican than a Democrat – why doesn’t he switch parties and run against Bush in the Republican primaries? He’s no Democrat – he’s far more conservative than many Republicans.
    Dean still has my vote.

    The core of the democratic party is anti-American, and pro-Saddam. While I personally would probably vote for Lieberman over Bush (since he’s actually for free trade, like Clinton, and unlike Bush), he has no appeal to the Democratic party

    Me: The Republican party was Saddam’s best friend. Auren Hatch, Ronald Reagan, Donald Rumsfeld, and many others did their best to arm and assist his murderous ways.

    Arm him with what? All of his weapons are Chinese, Russian, and French. Cite for me a confirmed case of US soldiers facing US made weapons in either Gulf war.

    I can’t believe how sick I am of people saying thank god we took the initiative to get rid of this guy. If we’re so concerned about saving the world from evil dictators, I hope W. has a list that he’s ready to check off. Personally, I might actually consider voting for the guy if I truly felt his motives were so humanitarian. But nothing else that he has done spells a concern for other people. Promises millions for AIDS in Africa, doesn’t deliver. Promises to fund school initiatives, doesn’t deliver. Has no concern for the environmental fate of the world. So please, stop using the convenient excuse that the world is better off with out Sadaam. Go tell it to the millions of other people who live in oppression and fear, and let them know when we’re going to be on their doorstep “helping” them out. I doubt that’s going to happen unless they’ve got something we want. And that just makes Lieberman more of a phony in my book. I voted for him in 2000…no way this time.

    Lieberman is arguing that we should vote for him because he’s just like Bush? Yeah, that’s a real winning strategy. The people who don’t like Bush aren’t going to vote for Bush-lite either, so he gets no traction in the Democratic primaries. Then, in the unlikely event that he gets to the general election, the people who like Bush vote for Bush, and the people who don’t either stay home or vote Green.

    It will be an Era of Good Feelings with the SoCons and the Libertarians of the Republican Party eventually splitting into two new parties. And where will the Greens be? They’ll be running rallies with their soulmates, the KKK.

    I think Dean is unelectable. You can’t scare off the middle and win, and that’s exactly what dean is doing with his “metrosexual” B.S., and his “Bush knew!” speech. The middle wants to finish off the war on terror, sure, but it also wants to win it. You get a Dem that fits that, and you’ve got a contender. Lieberman is your man. I’m a republican voter usually, but if Lieberman ran, I’d vote for him.
    Plus, his name means “Nice Guy” in German. Who wouldn’t vote for that?
