F

F
: John Kerry uses the f word:

“I voted for what I thought was best for the country. Did I expect Howard Dean to go off to the left and say, ‘I’m against everything’? Sure. Did I expect George Bush to f – – – it up as badly as he did? I don’t think anybody did,” Kerry told the youth-oriented magazine [Rolling Stone, that is].

: Drezner has a Kerry meltdown watch with more from Marshall and Kaus.

Well, as I said in the thread about Kerry’s cofab at Al Franken’s house, I wonder if that meeting took place before or after he gave the interview to Rolling Stone. Because dropping the “F-bomb” word in a magazine supposedly designed for youth (but in realizty struggling to find its own connection with today’s young audiences) sounds a lot like something that an Al Franken or an Eric Alterman would suggest Kerry do, in order to “electify” young Democratic-leaning voters and get their attention turned away from the Howard Dean campaign.
I can see the campaign commercial slogan now: “John Kerry — Not just mad, but f–king mad.” It’ll play great in all the alternative papers and on any of the public access channels in New Hampshire that air commercials…

Huh. I always think of Rolling Stone more as an “aging-hippy-suburbanites-trying-to-be-cool” magazine. Show me a single “youth” who ones two of the magazine’s top ten albums of all time. And show my an aging hippy who doesn’t one at least six.

Jeff, I am not sure what your point is.
Just to recap, on this blog, you’ve used the “f” word, and not just quoting other bloggers, but to indicate your own level of frustration, or what have you. You have also banned other posters from spelling out the “f” word, and said you didn’t want your son reading that sort of stuff. I can understand that.
But again, I am not sure what your point is. I will note that from Atrios, we find several occasions that GWB used the “f” word. (I’ll spell it as “f*” and not as “f…” as I prefer the state of not being banned….)
    ”
    Here’s the quotes from Atrios:

F* Saddam. We’re taking him out.
-George W. Bush, March 2002, as reported in Time.

And in the not that distant past:
    You no-good f* s o a b, I will never f*’g forget what you wrote.
-George W. Bush, to journalist Al Hunt in front of his 4-year old daugher, 1987.
If the Bushies are making a stink about this, it’s incumbent on any journalist who has heard, but not reported, our president saying a naughty word or two to report them for, as they say, “balance.”
    Of course, let’s not forget:
    “P*y.”
-George W. Bush, 1988, in response to a question about what he and his father are talking about when they’re not talking politics.
    ”

With Kerry F*n this and F*n that, I can’t see anyone taking him seriously. Taking a page out of the Dixie Chick’s song book, “I am ashamed to have fought in the same war as Kerry”.
I also think Teresa Heinz could have done a lot better than Kerry. But I understand they have a great prenup.

    Hey, jerry –
Afraid I’m gonna have to ask for exact sources (ie. linkable, or readable @ library) on those quotes. Sounds a little too convenient, and a little too unlike Bush.

Jerry is a liar. “P*y” is what Bill Clinton admitted that he and Vernon Jordan talk about when they’re not talking politics. I bet Jerry knows that, too. Also, it’s not the Republicans who are saying anything about Kerry for his dirty mouth, it’s Democrats, particulary those he’s campaigning against.
Jerry posts comments frequently. Either because he loves the attention or loves to lie.

Now I know what the “F” stands for in John F. Kerry.
Seriously, just seems silly and a touch sad.

    Let google be your source.
    “P*y”
    And Salon:

Jake Tapper, “God Is Their CoPilot: Both
Born-Again, Bush and Gore Have Made This the Most God-Fearing
Presidential Race in 100 Years. But Their Faiths Have Led these Men in
Two Completely Different Directions,” SALON, 07 July 2000

Oops, in that article he also is quoted as saying that nonbelievers in Christ, including Jews, go to hell.
Since Jeff claims to be concerned with anti-semitism, maybe he will wear a kippah in support of Jews not going to hell.
For those of you that say I’m a liar, a) I said I was quoting from Atrios, b) it took me about 60 seconds to find the primary source of the “p*y” quote, (Jake Tapper Salon), and so c), you lazy ignorant name calling weenies, I’ll let you find the “f*” quotes yourself.
Sorry to point out the obvious that BushCo is a hypocritical, crony-loving, incompetent, elitist, profane, drug-abusing chimp of a president.
Apart from that, a charming fellow.

Atrios and Salon, two totally unbiased and reliable sources.

I believe the “f*ck” Saddam” quote comes from Bob Woodward’s book, and was first printed in the Time magazine article Atrios quotes.
Of course, someone will now step forward to say you can’t believe Time or Bob Woodward either. Perhaps if Barbara Bush stepped forward to admit her son cusses, a few people might believe it.
Of course, someone would then just quote BB King (“Nobody loves me but my mama, and she could be jivin’ me, too”)….

Trying to find duelling profanity anecdotes misses the point. This has nothing at all to do with W. The point is – does the Rolling Stone F bomb from Kerry illustrate:
    a) his growing desparation
    b) a clumsy attempt to regain his anti war credentials (after voting for it)
    c) a & b
    d) none of the above
This wasn’t anecdotal or off mic – this was to an interviewer. All of these guys are so scripted and “on message” all the time, I have a hard time thinking his choice of words wasn’t calculated.

Alex has it right. The problem with Kerry dropping the f-bomb in an official interview is that we can all imagine him sitting around beforehand with Chris Lehane or somesuch debating the use and proper placement of profanity in his interview. It doesn’t matter if he swore in spontaneous anger if everyone will assume it was premeditated.

Bush did it! Bush did it!
You sound like 6 year olds.
Kerry’s pathetic and always has been. How can anyone be so self absorbed and self deluded at the same time? I’ve met him any number of times and believe me his problems lie in one place, himself. All politicians are phonies, they’re like sales people, but he’s so transparently phony he can’t relate to anyone. He also suffers from representing a 1 party state. He thinks that because he ran virtually unopposed that he’s really, like popular. What a nitwit.
