Ahem. Remember us?

Ahem. Remember us?
: Typepad is getting new features. Time for us Movable Typists to act like the jealous older siblings who are jealous of all the attention the cute new baby is getting.

What I really want for Christmas is the ability to email posts to my blog.

And I want somebody to get Anil, Mena, and/or Ben a Treo 600 for Christmas so they are motivated to make MT work well with it and other mobile devices (the biggest problem is the limit on the size of any given text block for input or editing on the browser… leading to the need for a Palm-friendly blogging ap).

I’d like to see a list of what MT is getting and a schedule. Please?

I’m ready to pay money for MT Pro. I don’t want another incremental release of Free MT, I want to trade cash for lots of new features.

Reid: But be warned that MT pro is going to be very complicated and most people will not be able to install it. I would kill for an incremental release of MT that has email-to-blog. And we’d get it quicker.

This plugin allows you to post an entry to your blog via a POP email account. I’ve never tried it, because I’ve never had the need to do so, so I don’t know how well it works.

Agreed . . . have been waiting forever for an update to Movabletype. I’d love to be able to email to my blog.

Hmmm, Jeff, got some inside scoop? Well, I’m going to assume it will be a CGI app that uses MySQL, and that with sufficient banging of my head, I’ll be able to get it to work. I’m also going to assume that Six Apart or some other enterprising third party will offer a separate service to do installs (as they once did for $20 with Free MT, which a lot of people still say is “very complicated and most people will not be able to install it“).
I noted recently that Six Apart was looking to hire a coder. Obviously, there’s only so much Ben and Mena (and you, too, Anil) to go around, and the company has to focus its resources where they will be most profitable. Unfortunately for all of us, that is no longer Free MT. And if you want Six Apart to remain a viable and growing concern (and resource for all of us), I think you’d better learn to be OK with that.
We have gotten, and get, a tremendous amount for free; an excellent piece of freeware used by tens of thousands of people. I want the company that did that to be a continuing success, and if that means they need to focus on Typepad, offerings in Japan, and yes, MT Pro, to the temporary detriment of Free MT, I’m willing to live with that.
    And pay for the results.
