Brits on Bush

Brits on Bush
: British Politics explains why the Brits are supposedly up in arms about Bush’s visit:

The first thing to tell our American readers is that we are just as prejudiced about you as the French, though slightly less ideologically. In our minds, you are either movie stars, or fatso

The bit of this that really made me nod in agreement was BS’s point that GWB’s lack of self-deprecation is pretty unforgivable.

I caught Eigenstate’s “ability to self-depreciate” comment. Interesting, how exactly does the President of the US self depreciate himself? I’m trying to get my next business trip to coincide with the Bush visit. I’d like to see first hand what my Brit fiends are coining as “hysterical Britishness.” I doubt very much Nigella Lawson’s specialty is cooking for “burger-scoffing surrender baboons.” But who knows. I also found this petition online,
    http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?bushuk
203 people signed it, not what I would call a major protest.
This site will track GW’s visit and has downloadable protest kit.

Hysterical Britishness indeed. Were I to be pissed over anything it would be the Free Speech Zones being imposed while the supposed leader of a freedom loving country was in town. IMHO

You will seek in vain, KMK, for “Hysterical Britishness” – it is an oxymoron. Stiff upper lip, all that, old boy.
It isn’t quite binary – he neglected to mention the “loud-mouthed texan”, which is by-far the most common view of americans held by britons.

Hoodie’s right, but that’s probably a third category: redneck. When I was in the UK, I never heard so many people quote the movie “Deliverance” in my life.

The UK is the land of the metrosexuals. And metrosexuals can’t stand southerners, which is what Bush is.
