: This scares Salam Pax, and for good reason:

Two hours before the dawn call to prayer, in a village still shrouded in silence, Sabah Kerbul’s executioners arrived. His father carried an AK-47 assault rifle, as did his brother. And with barely a word spoken, they led the man accused by the village of working as an informer for the Americans behind a house girded with fig trees, vineyards and orange groves.

His father raised his rifle and aimed it at his oldest son.

“Sabah didn’t try to escape,” said Abdullah Ali, a village resident. “He knew he was facing his fate.”

    Came across the same link on a couple of pro-war BLOGS this evening and can’t help but notice the lack of mention that while the U.S. is encouraging informants they offer absolutely no protection to them… odd ‘eh, considering it’s a fact that’s included in the same article
    Being placed in the position of having to kill your son or know that your entire family will be killed by others is something we in the west cannot even come close to imagining.
    The family has my sympathies.

    It should be duly noted that Salam’s friend G. has been MIA lately. I sent him an email urging him to update his blog, but with no results. Jeff poopooed my worry about him, but he is a minority over there. And I am still concerned about him.

    If someone threatened my brother and I owned an AK-47, I would be over at his house waiting for the fuckers to show up so I could take a piece out of them. Given a choice between killing my brother and going down fighting, I know what choice I would make.

    I agree with Dean. Thirty years of brutal top-down rule seems to have killed all self-thinking and any vestige of common sense thinking. From the press, it seems like none of the people can think or do for themselves. The brutality of Saddam will live on long after he has departed this life.
