Blogs, blogs, everywhere (and not a one to read)

Blogs, blogs, everywhere (and not a one to read)
: I’ve started two new blogs — not in earnest (probably) but mainly to test out the two newest blogging platforms, AOL and Movable Type’s TypePad.

: My AOL blog is here. In it, I’ll post occasional observations about the two tools. Typepad doesn’t want us all to critique it for a few days and I’ll respect that. But as I say on the AOL blog, AOL is clearly much easier than TypePad.

: My TypePad blog is an experiment in hyperlocal blogging: a blog about my town, Bernards Township: thus, the BernardsBlog. I’ll add small observations on suburban life and larger complaints about the city fathers and mothers at will and whim.

Jeff, the AOL weblog format does not allow one to manage one’s own identity. I did not like this.
It somehow never occurs to these geek guys who code or program these widgets that there are people who don’t want their identity (or location) free-floating around out there indiscriminately. For example: there are many women who are trying to evade and avoid some crazy, violent guy who is stalking them or a similar type ex-husband, former boyfriend or relative.
This weblog, in contrast, does not dictate how a commenter identifies himself or herself which is SAFER for many people. I do not intend to go anywhere near their weblogs ever again because of this.
I have also worried about getting spammed simply because of my foolish impulse to help you experiment. So far, thank God, I haven’t gotten spammed, but I can see how this could be a potential problem, too.

So far, the Typepad weblog LOOKS attractive. We’ll give it a chance. But no more poetry because I don’t trust Anil and don’t want to get kidnapped to a Chinatown opium den ;-)
