What hath Amazon (not to mention Walmart) wrought?

You know, I’ve been wondering for months now where I could get a medium resolution satellite shot of the abandoned South Hills Mall in Poughkeepsie, New York…and here it is.
O tempora. O malles.
I was reading their section on Eastland Mall in southwestern PA. It had not been killed by Walmart or Amazon or anything modern; it died due to a combination of the Mon Valley’s Carter/Reagan swan song and the construction of third-generation malls like Century III and the Monroeville Mall. That is, it was dead because of competition from larger, better managed, better located, more modern malls.
When Century III and the Monroeville Mall die, then it’ll be the end of an era. Eastland Mall is just a case of evolution in action.
Whats the difference between the end of an era and evolution in action?
