Bloggers are journalists…
: …especially when journalists blog.

My blogging colleague, Joe Territo, has an email interview today with Reginald A. Wilkinson, director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and president of the Association of State Correctional Administrators, about America’s high incarcertion rate. Joe plans more interviews of national interest.

What high incarceration rate? According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Maual of the American Psychiatric Association, the prevalence of Antisocial Personality Disorder in the male population is about 3%. Which means an effective American police effort whould put about 4.2 million men in the slam, give or take an S&P 500 roster-full of CEOs.
I don’t think we have ENOUGH people in jail. And please, rehabilitation? Spare me.

Most of the recent rise in the jail population comes from persecuting people in pain and the suppliers of their relief.

The rest of the civilized world manages with prison populations 1/5 of ours (per capita).
There is no better way to create a crime wave than to operate a prohibition regime. it has worked well in America every time it has been tried.
