: Kathy Kinsley is agog that Andrew Sullivan is running another pledge week.

But once a year is enough. Seems ol’ Andy is having another ‘pledge week’, just six months after he made seventy-some-odd-thousand on the last one.

Excuuuuse me? I could do nothing but blog

If you’re a professional journalist/writer who thinks that blogging is akin to a “real” job, I say more power to you if you get people to pony up for your daily insights.

Give him a break. He’s a freelance worker and needs money for his prescription ‘roids.

He puts the full text of long articles he wrote for Salon on his site where you can still read them for free, pledge drive or no pledge drive, without paying Salon’s outrageous, mandatory subscription fee for the privilege of reading the same content.
Also, the pledge drive section of his site is called, of course, and aptly “Tipping Point.” If he can show that a non corporation backed blog is a viable, money making proposition, this is good for everybody who is a part of this culture.

Wonderful point Eric, shouldn’t every blogger be overjoyed at his success? It shouldn’t be about him taking an unusually large share of the blogosphere’s donations, it should be about him showing the viability of a blog as a money-making entity. Why on Earth should any blogger be upset about this?

Plus, it gives Neal Pollack like a week’s worth of material.

I wonder how many ‘pledge weeks’ the blogisphere can sustain though?

Trevor, begging for operating funds in a weblog is no more viable a business model than begging for spare change on the street.
