Weird thing I noticed in there…
“It appears that many who left San Francisco between 2001 and 2002 headed to more affordable communities in neighboring San Mateo, Alameda and Contra Costa counties, according to an analysis”
Yet two graphs up it stated that those three counties also lost population overall, meaning that of all those that moved for cheaper housing, even more left those areas, for an overall net loss still.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the large gay population. Obviously, gays don’t pro-create, therefore a “loss” of population from natural births. (This is not gay bashing please, just honest speculation) My wife and I took a trip to San Fran. while we were house hunting in New Orleans. We looked at some houses for the fun of it and were amazed at the prices. For the money they wanted for a shot-gun house, you could get a mansion back home.
