He’s no damned Dixie chick!

He’s no damned Dixie chick!
: What a great scene on TV right now: Donald Rumseld introducing Daryl Worley for a concert at the Pentagon. That’s because Worley wrote the song of this war, Have You Forgotten?. You can find the lyrics at this fan site:

I hear people saying we don’t need this war

I say there’s some things worth fighting for

What about our freedom and this piece of ground

We didn’t get to keep ’em by backing down

Now they say we don’t realize the mess we’re getting in

Before you start your preaching let me ask you this my friend

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?

To see your homeland under fire

And her people blown away

Have you forgotten when those towers fell?

We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell

And you say we shouldn’t worry ’bout bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

    You forgot the best part:
Some say this country’s just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I’d have to say that’s right

Great “patriotism” there. America as an angry drunk looking to inflict violence on anyone, everyone, everywhere, just so it can feel better about itself. This whole song is a bizarre delusional wargasm, and I can’t describe how creepy it feels to see people enjoying and even celebrating the glassy-eyed revery of violence it evokes.

Uh, who says we shouldn’t worry about bin Laden? Do these idiots just make everything up that they put in their pre-fab songs?
Iraq was about many things, but it had almost nothing to do with the towers falling. Why do we encourage people to be disingenuous to the point of falsehood by giving them a stage?

I don’t give a tinker’s damn whether the war in Iraq had anything to do with the specific event, “The Twin Towers”. I give a mighty big damn about stopping the next event, and since we’re up to 4 training camps and counting, that’s good enough for me.

not to mention all of those weapons of mass destruction we found and “took off the street”!
lemme guess … they moved ’em all into Syria – thus justifying the NEXT invasion … and when we don’t find them THERE? We’ll “learn” that “sources” say that they’ve tunneled UNDER Iraq, all the way to Iran to store those weapons, thus justifying the NEXT invasion in what I like to call … the Rumsfeld Trifecta.

You have them, don’t you paul? Come on, you can tell us.

And after Iran, we’ll go look for them in Saudi Arabia, then Egypt, then Algeria, on down the list.
And then OMG lookit, the whole middle east is no longer a corrupt thugogracy intent on butchering anyone in the world who doesn’t conform to their religion.
Explain to me how this is a bad thing.
BTW, after my tirade, let me ask you Paul, what is your solution to this?
Explain to me how the other way around is a good thing, where the M.E. bands together and first overruns Europe, introducing perverted Islamic law, killing millions who resist, then Asia, then India, then Central America, then North America.
All the while imposing their autocratic regimes bent on holding power through rampant use of death, fear and torture.
This is their own stated goal, to rule the world as an Islamic state. These are their known methods.
Compare our methods, how many Iraqi’s dead? Take the most wildly inflated numbers you can find, soldiers and civilians. Does it exceed 10,000?
    How about millions?
Look to the future and see what is happening now to shape it going forward. Rolling over and letting it go on is like sticking your head in the sand.
Trying to work things out has been done; No-go, they don’t want peace, they want the world. Wake up and realize that.

Bravo John, you are spot-on here. Incidentally, Paul is not likely to possess a solution of his own.

    actually, Pyecraft, i do. thanks.
“And then OMG lookit, the whole middle east is no longer a corrupt thugogracy intent on butchering anyone in the world who doesn’t conform to their religion”
yeah. instead we have a corrupt thugocracy intent on butchering, bullying, and stepping all over anyone in the world who doesn’t conform to the “American Way”. oh wait, that’s us.
you want another solution? how about TRYING TO ACTUALLY DEFUSE THE ISRAEL/PALESTINE situation. Bush seems to be ignoring it. He refuses to even SPEAK to both sides. And yet, he’s all about peace. Right. If we’re going to be a LEADER of the world, then let’s LEAD by the right example — not show everyone that strong-arming, bribery, and propaganda works like a charm in toppling cookie-cutter regimes.
“Explain to me how the other way around is a good thing, where the M.E. bands together and first overruns Europe, introducing perverted Islamic law, killing millions who resist, then Asia, then India, then Central America, then North America.”
    no offense, but that’s crazy.
these guys couldn’t “band together” to “overrun” a barbershop, let alone the entire world. that’s just foolish. there are several sects of Islam that DESPISE eachother just as much as they do the Western world. these are people who are as technologically advanced as Anna Nicole Smith is “refined”. you expect them to topple the world? you give them FAR too much credit.
no wonder you want to kill them all.

I guess I’m not a good American, but I think this song is the worst kind self-centered crap that capitalizes on a tragedy to sell records. This is no different than the Tim Robbins/Susan Sarandon crap, except that it is pro-Bush, pro-war. Now, if Mr. Worley decided to donate the proceeds from the song to charities trying to feed the liberated Iraqis and provide them with medical assistance, then I might go out and buy a copy. I’ve actually heard the song and don’t particulary like it, but I would buy a copy to help those in need (much like “We Are the World,” which I also hated).

Nice way to ignore the questions asked Paul.
Count the Iraqi’s killed by Americans in this war.
    Okay, done?
Now count the Iraqi’s killed by Saddam….
    Okay, done?
    Which was higher?
Now pick any M.E. regime, and start tallying up their body count.
If you honestly believe that the US is into slaughtering and butchering populations on even 1/10th of the scale as these guys, well, you are either deluded, or lying.
Either way, pointless to argue with you.
