Bill Maher: He never learns

Bill Maher: He never learns
: Bill Maher lost his last TV show for praising the terrorists’ courage. He has a new show on HBO and when talking about the new World Trade Center, he said:

You should have a why-they-hate-us pavillion. You should have a connect-the-dots pavillion…. because that needs looking into.

No, Bill, your skull needs looking into. It’s empty.

Sometimes it just makes you wonder if its worth giving people all these rights when they want to go be “stuipd” about it…….

OPEN YOUR EYES, THE WORLD HATES AMERICANS! There’s a reason, Probably because of people like you.

The primitives hate us because we let morons like Bill Maher have tv shows, over and over.

Oh yeah, you can always expect enlightenment from the clowns who type in all-caps to get their point across, and then drop an ad-hominem nugget to show just how much more enlightened they are.
If it weren’t for the internet, he’d probably be shouting on a street corner somewhere.

Yeah, I thought that was an incredibly stupid thing to say. I mean, he had Ted Rall on, and he still managed to make the dumbest statement of the night.
Did he really lose his last show for the 9/11 crack, though? It was nine months from that to his last episode. I’m sure it didn’t help, but everybody makes it sound like ABC cut him off in mid-sentence or something.

    Ruv,
The funny thing about the world hating America is that if they had a chance to move here, 90% would move in an instant.
They are just jealous and hate that for the most part they are irrelevant.

mycal, you’re very funny!!!! the world hates america because americans suck and because they think — the way you do — that they’re better than everybody else.

just a little clarification, the original statement on ‘Politically Incorrect’ was not a “praise of the terrorists’ courage” but a response to his guest Dinesh D’Souza’s assertion that people who are willing to die in service to their cause, whatever else they may be, are not “cowards,” Maher said: “We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That’s cowardly.”
Basically he was stating the obvious that it takes more than a coward to hijack a plane and fly it into a building.
I don’t know about the quote from the current show, but i have the feeling if you put it in context it might actually make more sense than you credit Bill for…

So have you ever liked Maher, Jeff. Because your desire to pick on one or two sentences and not even acknowledge that his voice is needed and there were a lot of other smarter things said on the showe in both its first incarnation and it’s second.
I do wish he’d have different guests, but right now I can’t think of too many.

Maher’s original Politically Incorrect on Comedy Central was funny and entertaining, mainly because he let his guests do most of the talking. When he moved to ABC, he slid slowly but surely into arrogance and Hollywood conformism, until he was completely unwatchable the last year or two. Tuning in to see him shout over the guests night in and night out was extremely boring.
The tone of this new show is even worse than the ABC show at its worst – Maher is bitter and angry, talks over his guests, and has nothing to say. I had a Season Pass on my Tivo for it, but after the Ted Rall show I cancelled it.
The idea that HBO cancelled Dennis Miller for this shit is completely unacceptable, and makes me question whether HBO deserves my subscription dollars. Given the slide that The Sopranos and Sex in the City are on, the fact that Oz is over, and the fact that their newer series like Six Feet Under and that Larry David thing suck, I’ll probably cancel HBO with a nice letter blaming it all on Maher.

Wow. You’ll really teach HBO a lesson then. And Maher, too. I imagine he’ll pack it in if you cancel your HBO subscription. Hot sauce!

I think a WHY THEY HATE US PAVILLION is a fantastic idea. You’ve taken it totally out of context; he wasn’t saying “we had it coming to us,” just that people ought to reflect on the reasons that most of the world hates America…
What’s sicker is things like Ari Fleicher saying “some people better watch what they say” after Bill’s last controversial comment.
What would be so wrong, by the way, with a place to think about the rationale of the attackers? How could that possibly be a bad thing? (And, paraphrased from the show, and certainly true), it might help people see the connection between the fact that “they” hate us because they treat the Koran as not only their bible but their system of laws, and certainly John Ashcroft and the Bush Administration are trying to do that in America, replacing our laws with the bible whenever possible.

I would never ask, “Why do they hate us?” The question is utterly irrelevant. I say, “So they hate us; what do they think they’re going to do about it?”
Arrogant? Yeah, whatever. And so are they.
Thanks to all the America-haters for making the rest of us feel good about being American.

  14. Richard Bennett Avatar

Yeah, and while we’re building “why they hate us” pavilions let’s put one up for the Jews that Hitler hated, and another for the victims of Charlie Manson, and another for Ted Bundy’s victims, etc, etc, etc.
They hate us because we’re pretty (and rich, and strong, and Infidel), and that’s neither hard to figure out nor important.

Not that is was really tough to do, but I predicted on another message board right after 9/11 that Maher would come out with some “contrerian” statement about the attacks to what everyone else was saying because that’s the nature of the man — if the world says the sun rises in the east, Bill’s danm well going to say it rises in the west because it’s cutting edge to make prouncements and take positions like that, don’t you know.
What would have been more interesting is if he had not moved his show from New York to California when it moved to ABC, and then had made that same statement six days after the twin towers came down. When you go back and look at the most provacative statements that came out in the immediate days following the attack from American celebrities, its noteworthy that most of them were made either 3,000 miles to the west or 3,000 miles to the east of Ground Zero, and few if any from those in New York City itself.

We hate you here in Britain because you’re fat, dumb and give us shite tv like friends… oh … and your President is thick… but you all love him… duh

Well, they hate us because women walk around underdressed and gays kiss and we let teenage girls keep their private parts intact. So, basically, Mahrer wants a sex pavilion–like Times Square used to be. As if every horny Muslim guy on the planet wouldn’t be there in a New York minute, with his tongue hanging out and his hand in his pocket.
WHen PI moved to ABC, he got some different producers including a woman who’d previously exec-produced Donny and Marie. Nuff said…..

Maher’s comment about the 9/11 memorial was one of the stupidest things I’ve heard in a long time. However, his HBO show is brilliant–one of the best political talk shows on television.
