The laziest protest

The laziest protest
: In my day — the anti-Vietnam Moratorium days — when we held a protest march we marched.

These kids today are so lazy.

They want to “win without war” by marching without marching:

On February 26th, you can join a massive march on Washington without leaving your living room. The Virtual March on Washington is a first-of-its-kind campaign from the Win Without War coalition.

Working together, we will direct a steady stream of phone calls

I agree. That’s terrible. Why, when I was a boy we used to protest march for weeks on end. People would starve to death at the back trying to get to the fish’n’chip van.
    Kids these days…..

At least they won’t be blocking traffic.

    The protests of the Vietnam War were noble indeed;
passionate, and committed and I thank you and those of your generation for your efforts. But that conflict raged for over 10 years !!!! So what did the protesting do?
So now it’s my generations turn at bat. I educated myself on the issues of the day so I could intellegibly vote Nov 4, 2000. The majority of us voted for the same man to lead our nation, is he the one leading it? NO!
Ok I get the message loud and clear, I’m nothing more than the pawn in someone else’s game, so be it. Now if EVERY SINGLE one of us pawns refused to show up for WORK, at EVERY JOB depending on us pawns….THEN we’d get someone’s attention. No electricity, no water, nuclear plants…well let the plant manager run it him/herself. Infact let all the powerbrokers of this country attempt to keep the wheels of their machines spinning.
I’m talking a 21st century replay of Metroplolis,
    and this ain’t no cartoon.

Well, yeah, but when they got a couple hundred thousand people together to march here in the city, they weren’t allowed to march, so what do you do? Try to contact the decision-makers through other means.
Seems resourceful to me, the opposite of lazy.

Humor check, guys: Don’t prove the stereotype of humorless liberals true or then you’ll hear accusations of being both lazy and dull…

“Lazy and dull” – pretty much describes most of your comments on politics and international affairs Jeff Jarvis. Stick to writing about weblogs and the like and keep your ill-thought out, prejudiced and inane politics to your self.

A 21st century replay of “Metropolis”? You do recall that the shutdown was instigated by an evil mad scientist bent on convoluted revenge, that the workers would never had smashed the city infrastructure had they known what it did, and that the workers’ actions very nearly drowned their own children, right? Granted it turned out all right, but only just barely…
The way things are going, Bush and friends may well be out of a job in 2005 through the normal workings of politics. There’s a pernicious strain of thought going around that, since majority vote didn’t defeat him in 2000, therefore American democracy is broken or never existed in the first place. But the only reason there was even an opportunity for error or hanky-panky (however unforgiveable) to swing the election in 2000 was that the election was extremely, *extremely* close. It’s hard to build a mandate for national revolution on a fact that would not even have been the case if a thousand people in Florida had voted differently.

…Or were you talking about the Japanese cartoon “Metropolis”? I never saw that…
