: Scientists feed rats fast food and conclude that it’s addictive; this from New Scientist in the Aardvark.

Scientists agree that fat releases opioids in the brain, substances that make you feel happy, while sugar “can pave the way for the regular use of legal or illegal drugs.”

So that’s why I’m so miserable these days: No more Quarter Pounders.

One wonders if table sugar can be refined into something more profound as opium is refined into heroine?

Of course it can. It’s called “Krispy Kreme”, and the crack cocaine of sugar based products. Immediate addiction. Independent studies have confirmed, btw., that most crack cocaine addicts have consumed Donuts in their youth, reaffirming the suspicion that they are in fact a gateway drug similar to Marie-Johanna, and Posicles.
