Rescue me from my sucky host!
: It’s not the last time you’ve heard that request.

I use a sucky service called featureprice — terribly unreliable and terribly unresponsive service. I’ve had it.

The only advantage is that I get to host four domains (thus including my kids’) for $16.95/month with lots of storage.

I’ve emailed nothingspecial, used by Welch, Layne, et al; and Hosting Matters, used by Reynolds.

Any other recommendations?

And here’s a weblog wish: I wish someone would compile hosting recommendations and warnings so we can at least pool our buying power and what little clout we have to get decent service!

    i’ve been using phpwebhosting.com for over 2 years now – very good service, excellent price. and everything one would need for a weblog too: php, perl, python, ruby, plus mysql database.

    Jeff: What a pain in the butt. If you haven’t already, you might want to give Panix a call. They are the oldest ISP in NYC and seem to have stood the test of time. Good luck.

    I’ve got nothing but glowing things to say about Cornerhost. They’ve been great, they’re inexpensive, and they’re always right on top of things if stuff goes wrong.

    sounds like my host. Affordablehost.com They have a page to ask questions through email. Some questions Ive never gotten and answer too and if they do answer they don’t answer completely and you have to again go and email them and wait another 2 weeks for the rest of the question you had to be answered.. if at all. It took nearly 2 weeks before my site was available to use.
    They got my money then wrote and said they didnt get paid when my checking account clearly stated they had been paid and entire week before the notice from them that they didnt get paid. I have about 6 mo. left of my year that I paid in advance. When thats up Im outta there.

    I’ve heard good stuff about all of those, too.
    NothingSpecial is bare bones, but it never goes down & Os (the owner) has set up whatever we ask for: MT, webmail, various databases for various schemes. The best that can be said of it: nobody’s ever switched to another host company.

    Teresa and I use Blogomania, which apparently resells Hosting Matters bandwidth and server space and yet charges less. Beats me. Good service, very reliable, we’ve been entirely happy with them.

    I recommend site5.com — they have cheap packages and the best service I’ve ever seen. The respond to questions usually within 30 minutes, and they’re not condescending.
    free domain pointers, MySQL, great admin tool, site-wide CGI, and no setup. Only thing is, they don’t give you gigs of space. I only have 200 MB currently.

    I also use Blogomania. They provide a good reliable service. I’ve been entirely happy with them.
