The Nobel Peace Prize and Iran
: Iranian weblogger Hooman celebrates the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to an Iranian woman, Shirin Ebadi. He confesses:
I am not going to pretend that I had ever heard her name, but I think picking her as the winner out of a number of other nominees such as Pope who is nearing death clearly has a subliminal signal.
More than subliminal, I’d say. It’s a foghorn blaring, bringing the cause of Iranian reform to the world stage. Reuters called it “surprisingly bold push for reform in the Muslim world.” She’s not alone. And we’re not alone. The cause is just.
