Guardian column: Paulo Coelho, pirate

My Guardian column this week is an interview with the Googliest author I know, Paulo Coelho about the power of free and friendships online. The lede:

Paulo Coelho certainly has nothing against selling books. He has sold an astounding 100m copies of his novels. But he also believes in giving them away. He is a pirate. . . .

    Hello!

I’m a big fan of Paulo Coelho! You will love this! He’s the first best-selling
author to be distributing for free his works on his blog:

Interesting stuff, but I wonder if he spends as much time writing as he does on self publicity…

Interesting idea I guess if it works for him and it sells more books then it is a good thing?

Its a pity that musical artists don’t take the same approach to cut down on piracy buy offering more things for free.
