Wankers, all

Here’s the funny thing: I didn’t endorse Lieberman but the attack dogs still come snapping at anybody who even mentions the name. Pavlov time: Just mention Lieberman and they drool. Makes me Wanker of the Day. Proud to hold the title. Yeah, this is the way to win friends and influence election.

  • http://deleted Mike G

Well, Jeff, you actually believe that there are people who want to kill us because of their religion, so you’re a total wanker. Unless you’d said Christian fundamentalists wanted to blow us up, then you’d be sensible.

That comments thread is really like exposed Id with no controlling authority, yeesh. (And no, the Mike G in it is NOT me.)

    Congratulations, Mr. Jarvis!

Considering the source, high honor indeed.

  • penny

Joe Lieberman is a competent and decent man who did not deserve the the manner in which he was vilified by the Kos crowd – the fascist lunatics of the present left. His demise does not bode well for the Democratic party, which now that the rabid moonbats are ascending, can’t collapse fast enough in my opinion.

  • http://www.digitalstreetjournal.com Jonathan Trenn

Well, I just left this in response to that post:

Apparently the only solution that any of you offered was American Chap’s proposed solution of “Force all of the Zionists to pick up and move elsewhere and give the land back to it’s rightful owners!”

Which of course, means another war. Great idea.

Of course, there was: “How about we impeach Bush and his cronies and ship them over to Iraq, together with all the Halliburton war profiteers, the spineless pseudo-Democrat war enablers and oh so reasonable mediatypes (like say, Jeff Jarvis) who made this war possible, as a part war reparation?”

That’s good for the cheerleading section, but it doesn’t mean jack shit in the real world.

Amazed at the hatred that comes from some on the left. You guys are as bad as the ones on the right.

    We hear about Jeff Jarvis:

    intellectually neurasthenic little weasel

    puke-bucket

    brass-platedly STUPID

I do have to say, when you guys hate, you hate quite eloquently.

As one who was against this war before it started, I look now and see a withdrawal based upon a set timeframe is sheer luancy. What happens if our leaving results in a full scale civil war in which tens or hundreds of thousands more are slaughtered? What happens if the entire Middle East then erupts in a Sunni vs. Shiite battle? Arab vs. Kurd? Kurd vs. Turk? Arab vs. Persian?

I probably should get a life now. Getting too much caught up in all this shit. But the hard left/hard right types piss me off. Bastards.

Hey, wait. It’s my favorite Galway Girl. Hope all is well Penny.

I was against this war because I felt that what we see now would happen. But I believe if we leave now, it will get ten times worse.

The plan to get-out-now shows about the same level of planning that Bush and Co. took to set this whole fiasco in place.

I really missed Middle School… next thing you know, you’ll receive the Dooshbag of the Day award for mentioning that Hillary is a New York senator. Curse you for that in advance.

  • Lone

First, about winning elections: It can’t hurt too much. Civility is overrated, especially when it becomes a tool to bludgeon you into silence. Also, you don’t know what you’re talking about. At all.

Two: The DKos and FDL crowd were pumped up and said really nasty stuff about Lieberman (“Rape Gurney Joe”, which was catchy). That’s true.

  • http://jonswift.blogspot.com Jon Swift

Congratulations, Mr. Jarvis, on not falling for the efforts of the left-wing bloggers at misdirecting you into focusing on Joe Lieberman and his support of the very successful War in Iraq instead of on the terrorist loving al Qaeda types who form the Taliban wing of the Democratic party, who traffic in ad hominem attacks and negativity. Unlike the President and Joe Lieberman, who offer a very positive program of staying the course with more of the same, the only goal of these McGovern-like insurgents is to undermine the President with their dangerous criticisms of the conduct of the War in Iraq and the War on Terror. A less perceptive person might have been fooled.

It’s because what you wrote was stupid, Jeff. Let me remind you:

The movement in Connecticut did not support Lamont, it opposed Lieberman. Lamont is a cipher, like Robert Redford in The Candidate. I have feared that the left has made its mark these last six years by being against and not being for. I am eager to hear the winning strategy in Iraq and the Middle East — and I do not count leaving alone as a strategy — and the winning strategy against terrorism and Islamic totalitarianism.

That’s wrong, wrong and wrong, duder.

    1) How much time have you spent in CT over the last month? You’re repeating a media narrative that’s largely superficial.

    2) The “Left” is for all sorts of nice things, but since the “Left” has absolutely no political power at the national level we’re left in the position of being an opposition wing. Heaven forbid we should oppose colossal mistakes which are putting our future at risk.

    3) Disengagement is a perfectly valid strategy for Iraq. It’s much more sensible than building permanent bases.

I hope enjoy the conservative backslaps, It’s not quite as nice as “credibility,” but what are you gonna do?

  • http://www.tomdevine.net Tom Devine

    Jeff!

There is no excuse for the personal, mean-spirited tone of the attacks on your very sensible comments. These are not critics who are worthy of your attention. They certainly don’t deserve a reply.

  • Angelos

    Penny, what? Decent?

Where do you find decency in his continued support for this moronic adventure in Iraq?

Where do you find decency in his flippant observation that rape victims can just go to another hospital “a couple miles down the road” if the one she’s in won’t give her day-after pills because of religion.

He got Karl ROVE’S endorement and support. That should give you some insight as to his lack of character.

Hey, let him run as a Republican. That’s certainly what the GOP is hoping for, as they won’t endorse the actualy Republican candidate.

  • http://www.citybusinesschurch.org/blog Justin

I’m not a fan of Atrios. He acts like a child and is preaching to the choir.

But calling Lamont a Cipher may indeed make you a Wanker.

Penny writes: Joe Lieberman is a competent and decent man who did not deserve the the manner in which he was vilified . . .

Penny, What is good and decent about knowingly advocating support for an organisation that fronts for al-Qaida? That is what Lieberman has been doing.

If those who voted against him are guilty (as he asserts), of giving comfort to al-Qaida, then how much more is he quilty- as a KLA shill in the Senate – of the same.

    He is a hypocrite.

Tom – I don’t know what you are referring to by “knowingly advocating support for an organisation that fronts for al-Qaida” by Lieberman? When you make comments like that you need to be more specific with verifiable links.

    Jonathan – whatever.

Penny/Jonathan-Whatever writes:I don’t know what you are referring to by “knowingly advocating support for an organisation that fronts for al-Qaida” by Lieberman? When you make comments like that you need to be more specific with verifiable links.

Penny/Jonathan, I have been very specific, and with links on the origninal Lieberman thread, and on this one as well. Unfortunately, Jeff’s server ate my original posting. I am not going to rebuild the previous posts, but I will cut and paste a bit. All of this can be found in more detail (with links) in the comments section of the original post on Lieberman by Jeff.

(Lieberman is either not too bright or duplicitious. Either way, he is unfit for high office.)

First what is Lieberman’s position on the al-Qaida front organisation the KLA?

JOE LIEBERMAN – APOLOGIST FOR THE FASCIST KLA
by Jared Israel and Eric Garris

[The] United States of America and the Kosovo Liberation Army stand for the same human values and principles … Fighting for the KLA is fighting for human rights and American values.” (Sen. Lieberman quoted in the ‘Washington Post,’ April 28, 1999)

Why call the al-Qaida puppet KLA the only authentic Islamo-fascist organisation?

this Lieberman, who makes a public spectacle of his religious beliefs, who pontificates from a place higher than Morality, this Lieberman fronts for the KLA who are the self-proclaimed heirs to the Balli Kombëtar, the World War II Albanian fascists (3). This Lieberman, who flaunts his Jewishness as if it were a theme park, to the disgust of many Jews, including the writers of this article, this Lieberman fronts for the descendents of the very people who murdered nearly every Jew in Kosovo.

But please note: since being put in power by NATO and the UN, Senator Lieberman’s beloved KLA has driven from Kosovo those Jews who managed not to be killed by the Balli Kombëtar during W.W. II, driven them out along with their descendents. That is, his KLA has completed the job of producing a judenfrei ‘KosovA.’

One final note. The ‘Bosnians” whom Sen. Lieberman is so proud of having championed were already being secretly armed and trained by the U.S. at the time he proposed legislation to openly arm them and train them. This seems to be a pattern with Lieberman.

And who were these “Bosnians?” Not the Serbs who lived in Bosnia. Nor the moderate Muslims who lived in Bosnia; they were militarily allied with the Serbs. Rather, he wanted to openly arm the extreme Islamist faction led by one Alijah Izetbegovich whose views are clearly stated in a book:

“… The first and foremost of such conclusions is surely the one on the incompatibility of Islam and non-Islamic systems. There can be no peace or coexistence between the “Islamic faith” and non-Islamic societies and political institutions. … Islam clearly excludes the right and possibility of activity of any strange ideology on its own turf. Therefore, there is no question of any laicistic principles, and the state should be an expression and should support the moral concepts of the religion. …” (”Islamska Deklaracija” or “Islamic Declaration” by Alijah Izetbegovic, p. 22)

And by the way, as a young man this Izetbegovic was a passionate supporter of the Mufti of Jerusalem, an ally and friend of Adolph Hitler, who recruited tens of thousands of Muslims in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Albania into the Waffen SS which then slaughtered many tens of thousands of Serbs, ‘Gypsies’ and Jews in Yugoslavia.

(See: George Lepre, Himmler’s Bosnian Division. The Waffen-SS Handschar Division 1943-1945, Schiffer Military History, Atglen, PA, 1997).

    Here is more:

Bin Laden had visited Albania himself. He was one of several fundamentalist groups that had sent units to fight in Kosovo, … Bin Laden is believed to have established an operation in Albania in 1994 … Albanian sources say Sali Berisha, who was then president, had links with some groups that later proved to be extreme fundamentalists. 10

Another link to bin Laden is the fact that the brother of a leader in an Egyptian Jihad organization and also a military commander of Usama bin Laden, was leading an elite KLA unit during the Kosovo conflict. 12

    And, more:

While the various Congressional reports confirmed that the US government had been working hand in glove with Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda, this did not prevent the Clinton and later the Bush Administration from arming and equipping the KLA. The Congressional documents also confirm that members of the Senate and the House knew the relationship of the Administration to international terrorism. To quote the statement of Rep. John Kasich of the House Armed Services Committee: “We connected ourselves [in 1998-99] with the KLA, which was the staging point for bin Laden…” 13

In the wake of the tragic events of September 11, Republicans and Democrats in unison have given their full support to the President to “wage war on Osama”.

In 1999, Senator Jo Lieberman had stated authoritatively that “Fighting for the KLA is fighting for human rights and American values.” In the hours following the October 7 missile attacks on Afghanistan, the same Jo Lieberman called for punitive air strikes against Iraq: “We’re in a war against terrorism… We can’t stop with bin Laden and the Taliban.” Yet Senator Jo Lieberman, as member of the Armed Services Committee of the Senate had access to all the Congressional documents pertaining to “KLA-Osama” links. In making this statement, he was fully aware that that agencies of the US government as well as NATO were supporting international terrorism.

Finally, here’s something not in my original post:

There are clear indications of the importance of the “Albanian Initiative”, i.e., the Iranian penetration into Albania. The meeting of the Iranian Supreme Economic Council at the beginning of 1998, dealt exclusively with the situation in Albania. The Council vice-chairman Bezavah Navabi, the new trustee for the coordination of the public social-economic initiative in Albania, took part in the meeting, along with other influential officials – Mohsen Nurbakan – governor of the Iranian Central Bank, as well as the prime figures of the relevant Iranian institutions and ministries. Furthermore, Navabi was instructed to coordinate the work and the activities with the Iranian intelligence structures. He suggested that a long term plan be drafted and launched to promote three Iranian long-term objectives in Albania:

Forming a commercial operative base near the “heart of Europe” (Germany, France, Italy, Benelux, Switzerland).

Reinforcing the strategic axis towards Sarajevo and Tirana, linked to intensified subversive Islamic political presence.

Organizing advanced posts for the Iranian Intelligence Service, to allow it to carry out operations and perform assignments concerning the penetration into Italy, Austria, Greece and further on into the European continent.

The implementation of the Teheran plans has already started. Operating through Iranian semi-official organizations and foundations, the Iranian Intelligence Service has created contacts with numerous Islamic and Iranian trade companies and businessmen in the major Albanian cities and established channels for making and financing new representative offices.

Meanwhile, Teheran took comprehensive steps to secure economic support and strengthen the ties with Albania through Arab-Islamic banking institutions. This is almost the exclusive source of hard currency input into Albania, and by positioning loyal figures at the very top of the financial oligarchy, Teheran transformed most of the local banks and financial institutions ensuring an undisturbed and permanent Iranian presence and penetration in all segments of the Albanian society.

These banks have established formal ties with several Iranian banks thus fully legalizing the Iranian presence in all spheres of financing. This resulted in the complete acceptance of the Iranian presence as a normal and even desirable situation.

Mohsen Nurbakan instructed those banks to invest in Albania regardless of poor profit and business risk factors. Officials of the Iranian financial intelligence are deployed in all Teheran’s institutions in Albania and cooperate closely with the operatives of the Intelligence Affairs Ministry regarding the financing of terrorist training camps, purchase of arms and military equipment, “money laundering” and other activities.

There is lots more: just search “Lieberman” and “KLA”. Once again, Lieberman is either not very bright or duplicitious. In either case he is unfit to hold high office.
