Guardian column: Putting the web first

Here’s my latest Guardian column, which reprises some of what I’ve written here about the Guardian putting the web first on newspaper stories. Cheeky of me to tell the Guardian what the Guardian’s move means in the Guardian. But that’s a Yank for you. Sound bite:

This move doesn’t just serve readers online, it drives them there, away from the old, shrinking medium that still draws more money to the new, growing medium that still doesn’t draw enough. That takes guts. This simple announcement changes not just the timing, delivery and geography of a newspaper but also its very definition.

Interesting articles in the Washington Post today about the 10th anniversery of the Post Online and how the MSM missed the boat in the new media world.

(though I will say the Post is one of the better online newspapers in the country)
