German Chancellor Angela Merkel is podcasting. Merkel hardly has a TV personality. But she keeps it brief. In her maiden voyage, she talks about the World Cup, starting in Germany, and how podcasts and technology aren’t for the young alone. It’s a good move. (Thanks, Erik Fortune)

Being used to a weekly radio address of your president and more it may not be obvious why this is a *very* huge thing regarding the acceptance of new media like podcasting / video casting, but also a huge step forward in how politics are able to address the nation.

In a press conference presenting this one of the journalist was obviously baffled that Angela Merkel intends on communicating directly with the people instead (!) of giving the information to the media.
