Do not build it and they will not come

Do not build it and they will not come

: A coalition dedicated to not building the International Freedom Center is calling a rally and press conference at noon Monday at the World Trade Center, details here. My plea to not build the center here.

: Cavuto took up the cause on FoxNews; video here.

Neil Cavuto…now there’s a paragon of journalistic integrity.

  • http://myblahg.blogspot.com Robert McClelland

This nonsense is yet another example of the right’s true nature; they’re selfish bastards who want everything their way and can’t tolerate what anyone else wants.

  • http://http://rd.thex.com/ the english guy

They should make the site into a beautiful grass and tree filled park with two small stone statues of the towers.

  • SteveMG

Yep, that famous rightwing Christer Jeff Jarvis.
Remember Jeff, when you wear the jackboots, you wear the black shirts, not the brown ones.
Fascists must now be fashion conscious in the age of celebrity culture.

Hey McClelland: if everyone against this stupid and idiotic freedom center is right-wing then the Republicans shouldn’t even bother campaigning in 2006. They’ll win every election running away.
This whole idea of people needing a “buffer” from the street to the memorial is assanine. It is an insult to the memories of that day to include some museum that would explain MLK, Jim Crow Laws, the plight of the Native Americans, and etc. It’s stupid, it’s political, it’s wrong. Build the towers back, build the area back like it was, and include a very tasteful memorial that celebrates the heroes of that day and everyone else that lost their life.
Like I’ve said before, put this damn center in front of the UN, that’s where it is needed the most. I encourage everyone to write, like I have, the necessary people to stop this awful idea. Jeff has the website linked in a previous post that lists who to write.

  • Patricia

Godspeed to all the families and to you, Jeff.
    No Center, Not Ever.

    Mr. McClelland,
It really sucks being in the minority, doesn’t it?

  • franky

The hypocrisy would be staggering if it wasn’t par for the course these days. Jeff goes wild about the memorial being taken over by some people’s agenda then wants images from Iraq included (as if the innocents of 9/11 died for the Iraq invasion), Mike says it’s an insult to include explanations of MLK then without pausing for breath says: “Like I’ve said before, put this damn center in front of the UN, that’s where it is needed the most” (as if the innocents of 9/11 died to pursue some petty little hatred of the UN).
You’re either offended by the politicisation of this or you’re just pissed that your little partisan hackery didn’t make it to the final blueprint. Make up your minds.

  • Mike

franky, take your morally superior tone and shove it. This little poltically charged freedom center has nothing to do with the innocents of 9/11. The two have no business being mentioned together. I am against the politicisian of a 9/11 memorial. They can build this freedom center, just don’t put it at ground zero, hence my suggestion on where to build it.
(as if the innocents of 9/11 died to pursue some petty little hatred of the UN).
Huh? Where did you come up with that from my statement? That’s quite a stretch and quite an assanine misrepresentation of what I said and think.
Here you go franky, I’ll spell it out for you. I do not want this freedom center built at ground zero. It does not belong at that location. It does nothing to teach us about the happenings of that day, it actually distracts us from it. I don’t care if they build a freedom center, just put it somewhere else more appropriate.
