This story has legs

: Michelle Malkin compiles links finding conspiracies in making Ann Coulter — “Ms. Right” — ook incredibly leggy on the cover of Time. I find a different conspiracy: Making her the symbol of the right would be like, oh, making Michael Moore the symbol of the left, eh?

  • http://www.armchairgenius.com Armchair Genius

Well except she is a bit easier on the eye than Michael Moore…. So I think the left would be making a mistake to make her the symbol of the right. They should stick with DeLay….

  • http://www.perrspectives.com Jon

Perhaps Ann and Michelle would prefer any of these images from Google.
Coulter’s own photo preferences clearly trend towards “heroin unchic”.

  • franky

So Ann Coulter gets all the legitimacy and kudos of being on the cover of one of the world’s biggest news magazines – and of course it’s a conspiracy against the right. I mean how predictable is this trumped outrage from parts of the right? (check out Atrios for the reporter’s inability to find many factual errors or distoritions in Ann Coulter’s work).
Since the right has been so generous with their advice for the left (“shift the right and abandon all your principles”) here’s some for the right: you better get over this constant need to feel persecuted and to use this invented persecution to come together, or I can only foresee tragic consequences for America. See the thing is that when you tell a people they are persecuted it removes all inhibitions on their behavior and it won’t be long before a lone nut takes this belief in persecution to go out and do something.

  • franky

Sorry, to post twice but just had to ask: is the right that sex-starved that they find this monster attractive? Man, I’m betting there are solitary confinement prisoners out there who may prefer their battered copy of Hustler to a night with Coulter.

  • http://victorysoap.us/ Andrea Harris

“Monster.” Nice. Franky, you’re a real shining example of humanity.

  • Kat

Franky prefers leftist bitches like Maureen Dowd or that huffy Arianna..

  • John

    They’re creepy and they’re kooky,
    Mysterious and spooky,
    They’re all together ooky,
    The Addams Family.
    How droll.
Man these guys are brimming with creativity!

Coulter’s own photo preferences clearly trend towards “heroin unchic”.
That’s just…disturbing. She’s quite the role model for young girls, looking more malnourished than Calista Flockhart.

  • franky

I’m a shining example of humanity?
“My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building.” Ann Coulter.
Andrea, you must be post-op, because you’ve got big balls.

  • Kat

And franky you must have had a sex change, cause you have no balls.

  • http://victorysoap.us/ Andrea Harris

Why, Franky, because I dared contradict you? How typical: scratch a leftist, find a misogynistic pr*ck. I’ll bet you call heterosexual women “breeders.”

  • http://victorysoap.us/ Andrea Harris

And Kat, with all due respect, I don’t need you gilding the lily here.

  • franky

Yeah Andrea, it’s because you contradicted me. I come to Buzzmachine and demand everyone agree and learn from me, and then there’s you, this strong independent voice who defies my power. I’m glad to see your absence hasn’t dulled that intellect.
Moonkat, you’re even getting dissed by your ideological twin now – they say mental illness is the lonliest place to be. Strength, moonkat, strenght.

  • kl

    “Strength, moonkat, strenght.”
Slow down, chief. It’ll be okay.

  • Mumblix Grumph

Michael Moore has become the symbol of the Left like it or not.
I didn’t see Ann Coulter in the Presidential box during the convention. I did see Mikey’s sun-eclipsing ass planted next to Jimmy Carter, though.
When I think of the Left I conjure up images of Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, Al Frankin and a whole Spago’s full of allegedly-talented celebs.
Give me a reason why I shouldn’t think that.

  • http://photodude.com/ Reid

Gee, the photo makes her look … harsh. Just like she sounds.
I’m sorry, what exactly was the problem here? Too much accuracy in photography?
Does the woman not have the smarts to ask to see a Polaroid when she goes on a photo shoot? And how exactly is this photo any different than the very same photographer’s spread-legged wide-angle crotch-shot of Bill Clinton?
Seems clear this isn’t a left-wing conspiracy. You’ve just got a photographer who hates politicans and pundits. And is somehow getting paid for it.

  • Ptolemy

“See the thing is that when you tell a people they are persecuted it removes all inhibitions on their behavior and it won’t be long before a lone nut takes this belief in persecution to go out and do something.”
Come on Franky. Glass houses, you know. Who would vote Democrat if that card wasn’t being played every election?

  • franky

Ptolemy, are you seriously suggesting the left claim to be as persecuted as much as the right? Hasn’t the entire right-wing chant been one long march of victimization?
Only the right could control the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives and still claim they are being persecuted? Why? because a photo of Ann Coulter made her look a little funny and there’s soome judges out there whose opinions they don’t like.

  • http://www.hellblazer.com Hal

Well, in addition to the victimization, there’s the calls for mass impeachments, rounding up of everyone who looks like a Muslim, and several other wonderful refrains.
Hmmm. Michael Moore never actually called for blowing up the NY Times building like Coulter. I suppose there’s a lot more comparisons, but from what I’ve seen of the two people in question, I’d rather have MM as my mascot than the wicked witch of the west.
    Calling for McCarthyism?
    Y’all are a hoot!

  • http://amomentwith.typepad.com/ Easycure

The problem with you Lefties is that you don’t know when somebody is kidding and you take offense to everything. Are you actually suggesting that anybody, including Ann, would say that blowing up the NYTimes is OK? She kids, but because her deadpan is so good, you guys don’t even realize it. Then you sit there and whine and cry because somebody ruffled your feathers. Good God, get a backbone. You’ve got MSM bought and paid for and you still can’t change public opinion? Jeez, you Democrats are failures. You shouldn’t me as mad at the Right as you should be at yourselves for being on the wrong side of every issue since the 1960’s.

  • Cal

“I’d rather have MM as my mascot than the wicked witch of the west.”
You got him, you can keep him and hey, what a plus that has been for the dems. I love all the banter from the left about the right. They couldn’t even beat Bush after all the hubbub. I’m so far right and I didn’t even vote for Bush. Truly distracted, they need a real leader. Also, why do they still let Howard Dean out in public?

  • Angelos

Oh, Easycure, your hypocricy is chilling.
When Ann Coulter says so-and-so should be murdered, executed, blown up, it’s OK, it’s just funny rhetoric?
Hey let me try – Ann Coulter should be ass-raped with a power-drill, and force-fed a cheeseburger. But lighten up, that’s just some deadpan humor.
But when MM shows an actual clip of Bush speaking (or attempting to), and leaving it untouched because reality has the ultimate comic effect, he’s un-American?
And when she’s completely wrong, like when she insisted to a Canadian journalist that Canada sent troops to Vietnam, she just doesn’t care. No actual fact can sway her conviction, and the conviction of all you mindless right-wing lackeys.
Oh, and yes Andrea and Kat, she is butt-ass ugly. They not only hit her with the fugly stick, they broke it over her face. Scary-looking, emaciated, dishonest, and stupid – hey, no wonder she’s a right wing sex-symbol.

  • franky

Easycure, you would have more of a point if the right today were known for their humor. A more bunch of humorless dolts I couldn’t imagine. (I stress the right today, because the interesting, small government, erudite right of yesterday are now all but extinguished by the Rapture-awaiting, corrupt hicks of the Republican party today).

  • http://www.hellblazer.com Hal

Yep. The left wing loons are just like the right wing loons.
Tim McVeigh, who has performed to great reviews by Ann Coulter (although she was miffed at his choice of targets).
Eric Rudolph, who has performed to great reviews by the religious right.
And then there’s the calls for federal judges to be tarred and feathered by a sitting Congressman and Senator.
Yep. MM is so much worse than all the loons on the right. He’s constantly going around the country calling for people’s death, imprisonment and torture.

  • Eileen

“And when she’s completely wrong, like when she insisted to a Canadian journalist that Canada sent troops to Vietnam, she just doesn’t care. No actual fact can sway her conviction, and the conviction of all you mindless right-wing lackeys.”
~ “One of the most popular alleged mistakes pinging around the Web is from her appearance on Canadian TV news in January, when Coulter asserted that “Canada sent troops to Vietnam.” Interviewer Bob McKeown said she was wrong. “Indochina?” Coulter tried. McKeown said no. Finally, Coulter said haltingly, “I’ll get back to you.” “Coulter never got back to us,” McKeown triumphantly noted, “but for the record, like Iraq, Canada sent no troops to Vietnam.” What he didn’t mention was that Canada did send noncombat troops to Indochina in the 1950s and again to Vietnam in 1972.” http://www.time.com/time/subscriber/covers/1101050425/story12.html

Well, all Moore did, Hal, was say this right after Sept. 11:

Many families have been devastated tonight. This just is not right. They did not deserve to die. If someone did this to get back at Bush, then they did so by killing thousands of people who DID NOT VOTE for him! Boston, New York, DC, and the planes’ destination of California — these were places that voted AGAINST Bush!
Why kill them? Why kill anyone? Such insanity…

I suppose it’s nice he added the “Why kill anyone?” line, but you get the idea.
People like Moore or Coulter do more good for the other side than they do for their own, because they love hearing themselves make outrageous statements or pen wild hyperbolic claims that may briefly excite their supporters, but are considered so out of the mainstream they turn off everbody else. They pretty much deserve each other (though going by the Time Magazine cover shot’s angle if I were Moore I’d be careful, because the photo makes Ann look about at tall as Yao Ming, and she might knee him in the throat if the two ever got together…).

  • Kat

Thousands of Canadians served in Vietnam. Canadians are remembered on the Vietnam memorial. Canada did send troops to Vietnam–not the govt, but the country. Unless the Canadians who died there were ‘nobodies’, then Couter is right and McKeown is wrong.
