The deaf TV critic

The deaf TV critic

: Atrios turns TV critic… with the sound off.

He gives me a bad review.

I’m thinking he’s just jealous because I was talking about Kos instead of him. Bitchy, bitchy, bitchy.

  • richard mcenroe

A bitchy lefty blogger. How redundant.

  • Kat

Maybe the lefties don’t have much to be happy about so they blame moderates like Jeff just as terrorists blame moderates for their unhappiness.
This one is funny–protesters protesting the anti-war leftist crowd of Europe.
(About 50 Iranian activists are holding a protest on an airplane at the Brussels airport, seeking to convince heads of the European Union to stop accommodating Tehran’s cleric-led Islamic regime.
U.S. Iranian activist Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzi, who is in phone contact with Fouladvand, told WorldNetDaily the protesters want an internationally monitored referendum that would enable the Iranian people to choose their next form of government.
The first order of business, she said, is for Europe to recognize the terrorist threat posed by the Iranian regime.
“[The mullahs] may say they are after the U.S. and Israel, but they are after a secular and democratic lifestyle, which includes Europe,” Zand-Bonazzi said.
The protesters have been verbally abused by Belgian authorities and accused of hijacking, according to Zand-Bonazzi.
She maintains, however, the activists are doing nothing but singing Iranian freedom anthems and asking to speak to the U.K., French and German representatives of the European Union. )

Boy, Jeff, you have trouble with some of the most simple, basic facts. He did not give you ANY review, let alone a bad review. He was asking his readers for their input about Ron and Monica’s show. He said it LOOKS boring. That’s neither a “review” nor a “bad review.”
I’m honestly stunned at how often you get things wrong.

  • Gunther

    How about this?
“This Saturday, 330,000 sweaty-palmed high schoolers will head out to take the new SAT college admissions test. At some point, nearly all of those students will ask: Is this really necessary? Good question.”
“The hundreds of colleges that demand the SAT or ACT appear to be answering yes. High schools now dole out A’s so routinely that a test is needed to identify top performers. Those colleges are expecting an improved SAT, and they appear to be getting one.”
“The new test includes a writing sample: Students will have 25 minutes to write a persuasive essay. The test also ramps up the level of grammar that students will need to know and pushes up the math level by as much as three grades.”
I’m sorry, but I thought that I’d emulate Kat and post a long comment that was totally off topic.
P.S. — If Atrios was watching with the sound off, how would he know who you were talking about to begin with?

  • C Bassett

asx… good god. I’m not sure if you’re right or not, because it is certainly not clear what exactly Atrios meant. People say “anyone watch xxx?” quite a bit… and usually it’s so they can just bring up the show and give their opinion on it, not to get others’ input. “Simple, basic facts”?. You gotta be kidding me. Overreact much?

  • Rootbeer

Aha, now you know what Bill Cosby felt like everytime you said something negative about HIS TV appearances!

  • -asx-

    C Bassett…
You make a good point. I hadn’t thought of that, but you’re right, Atrios may have been saying “anyone watch xxx” as a way to raise the topic. Good point. Thanks for clarifying.
However… Jarvis says he believes Atrios is jealous he was talking about Kos. But Atrios said he wasn’t listening, just watching. Is Jarvis suggesting that ATrios is lying?
Even if it were true that Atrios was lying, and made his remark out of jealousy as Jarvis suggests, there is no way Jarvis could know this.
Jarvis is just trying to pick a fight with one of the top bloggers so that, hopefully, he can gaod Atrios into responding and giving him more traffic.
One thing about Jarvis is he’s consistently a self-promoter. Not that that’s a bad thing in and of itself. But it compromises his integrity, and his intellectual honesty. He’s a “whore,” if I may use the phrase.
He has no way of knowing what Atrios’s motive was for saying what he said.
Tell me: why do you think Jarvis chose to speculate about something he cannot possibly prove?
Didn’t the intellectually inconsistent Jarvis once lambaste Eric Alterman for speculating about stuff he couldn’t prove? I remember Jarvis, face red with anger, saying that Alterman had a responsibility to not speculate.
    Good God.
If people pay any attention to Jarvis, they see him for what he is.
    Signing off,
    “Your Self Correcting Blogosphere.”

    On topic: foolish leftist Atrios.
On topic: Kat mentioning other recent (and hilarious!) leftist foolishness.
On topic: Foolish and humorless attempt at mockery by Gunther.
    All the bases are covered.
“Bitchy, bitchy, bitchy” is a great description of Atrios, btw. I try to keep up with good blogs from the left, and I’m told that Atrios is one of the ones to read, but geez… I had to stop, because his interminable bad mood is oppressive.
The guy needs to see a doctor and get a sourectomy or something. If his mother wishes him a happy birthday, he probably accuses her of being a f*cking b*llsh*t wingnut for not having an abortion. I almost get the feeling that maybe he’s the godfather of all the sourpusses at DemocraticUnderground; he really reads like DU distilled.
Right now, the Democrats really need more Jeff Jarvises than Atrioses.

It’s all about ME Me me by Jeff Jarvis. Sorry it’s not JJ.

but Dr. Black’s point about television which shows monitors showing blogs rather than just talking about the blog is on point.
Jeff’s the big picture guy, but, curiously, he’s missed the biggest picture of all. Blogs are local and personal. The chief money maker in old-media, especially old-local, personal media is the weather.
News divisions sink a ridiculous amount of money into their weather in an effort to provide their consumers with pretty pictures. This in turns draw viewers which support all the other stuff the News division wants to do.
There’s no reason to have more than one Doppler 23,000 Radar covering a metropolitan market, yet each station in a market goes out and upgrades and buys hardware for forecasting and graphics software so that you can take the data and provide 3D renditions and virtual fly-throughs of big-ass weather systems in your area so that the viewers know what to wear. High tech in service of appropriate clothing.
The future of Blogs on TV is more Blogospheric than individual blogs. Should CNN come up with a graphical representation of the blogosphere, a 3D way of modeling NZ Bear’s ecoSystem coupled with Technorati input and such, and make that representation dynamic, Jeff and Co. would be more like meteorolgoists discussing weather as a dynamic process than like talking heads looking at discrete sites.
    It’d also be more watchable.

Good Gawd, we have entered he humor-free zone. The guy tweaks me, I tweak him. It’s not that hard to figure out. Turn down the seriosometer, folks.

Jeff, you tweaked Atrios because he was right about the war! There shall be no humor or lightheartedness on the internet–ever!

This is worse than 50-cent and what’s-his-name. Rivalries belong in music and professional wrestling. The internets is serious business, and I expect you to treat it that way.
And Jeff, it’s not a humor free zone. The pundits and talking heads have everyone so trained with Pavlovian responses that any hint of reed meat lets the dogs out.

Heehaa, Bassett. Thanks for the laughter.

I’m with Jeff on this. Soooooo serious, blog commenters! And it’s Friday! We need to bring back the three martini lunch.

“”Bitchy, bitchy, bitchy” is a great description of Atrios, btw.”
    All divas are bitchy.
I’ve always thought of Atrios’ blog as the Watering Hole for Dittohead Neanderthal Lefties. Maybe it’s really a devious plot by Rove to discredit the left.

  • Thinskinned

    Embarassingly weak comeback, Jeff.

    “I apologize for overreacting.”
You might want to create a macro for this phrase.
