I wanted to let you know that but I’m not responding or posting yet because I’m on vacation (kind of) and even Bill said I could deal with it after I get back
Wow, two weeks ago you would have been in high dudgeon over “circle jerk.” One email exchange and you withdraw the fangs. You work cheap; or are you trying to condition them to throw you bones?

A commenter here, being less than understanding?
That’d be a first.

I’m going to get that circle jerk going now…oh. I’m not a guy. And I’m not in the same generation as Keller. (See his initial email to you.) I see there are credentials Keller needs from me before he takes me seriously…and I have neither. I’m too young, and don’t have a … well whatever.

You could have stopped at “Mickey Kaus is disturbed” that pretty much sums up all u need to know about any of his take on things.

Mr. Keller is concerned about the credibility of reporters being lost? A bit late for that. I think the credibility eroded as readers looked in their papers and saw a world described for them, then looked around themselves and saw a different world. It happened slowly as people who knew a story looked at the one in the paper and said “that isn’t what happened. If they got that wrong, what else have they got wrong?”
Look, the news business is selling information, not a “Lou Grant” crusade-of-the-week. If they don’t listen to their customers and sell them what they want to buy, they’ll die off. If they proffer a shoddy product, their customers will go elsewhere. It’s time the Mr. Kellers of this world woke up and realized the monopoly is long over.

Keller zings Jarvis for purporting to speak on behalf of the millions of bloggers and blog readers. It sounds good at first, but it’s no different than the Times, or any newspaper, purporting to speak on behalf of the people. I’m not convinced it was ever any diffrent, but one thing we know now is that there is no such thing as public opinion. So Jarvis’s chutzpah here is no diffrent than that of the Times.
Keller’s right about pretty much everything else. What he’s really saying is ” stop worrying about us so much, and worry about yourself”. He’s right. Bloggers, like the GOP, are far too concerned with what their opponents think. ( See above – there is no such thing as public opinion). Nobody ever got anywhere by worrying what his enemies thought of him.

I write a conservative blog of my opinions. If this is a “one man circle jerk” “through a pinhole”, it’s my own damn business. Whether anyone is reading it or not, I want to put it out there. MSM’s problem with all of this is that too many people with this idea have threatened their power. The best part for me is that my pinhole view seems to coincide with the views of millions of others. Not that any of them are reading my blog. I include news info in my commentary only to inform people what I’m talking about, and try to reference it. All this stuff about bloggers’ “headhunting” is just these people’s reaction to things that have gone on for too long in the MSM. I wasn’t blogging yet when Rathergate broke, but one of my first posts was a copy of the email I sent to my friends as it happened. I still wonder why Dan Rather is working for 60 minutes Wed. edition, the very place he made his false accusations. As for the NY Times, I wouldn’t use it as toilet paper.
