Missing the point by a mile

Missing the point by a mile

: At the end of a very good online column today – started with a funny Crossfire of the Mind — Howard Kurtz drops this head-scratching quote from the new ombudsman/cop/conscience/whatever of CBS News:

“We didn’t come clean soon enough,” Linda Mason said yesterday. But, she added, “Dan does think he’s constantly attacked. If we backed off every story that was criticized, we wouldn’t be doing any stories.”

Misses the point by a mile. Let’s try to turn this quote around so it makes sense:

If you listened to the criticism that came in on your stories, you’d be doing better, more accurate stories.

That was the mistake here, Ms. Mason. That is what transparency — a word you’ve been throwing around — is really all about.

The Poor Man has the real scoop.
Based on the other important story today.

Nobody who helped promote either the various fake “Clinton scandals”, ignored the various real Bush scandals (UTIMCO, raping the Harvard endowment fund, Funeralgate, etc.,etc.), or helped Bush pimp the Saddam-has-WMD bullshit has any right to hold themselves superior to CBS over a story that was 100% correct and didn’t need the memos anyway.
By the way, Killian’s secretary, Marian Knox, said that while she didn’t recall typing those four memos, they were obviously intended to be reconstructions of ones that she had typed. Furthermore, she said that the information on them was true.

Rather’s complaint seems to be if his critics were wrong in the past about items A, B and C, they therefore must be wrong — or at the very least they should be ignored ignored — in their complaints today about items X,Y and Z. It shows an incredible amount of hubris on the anchorman’s part combined with an astounding case of denial.
Even if they finally find the person who forged the memos or someone actually steps forward and confesses to having created them on their MS Word program, Dan’s going to go to his grave asserting that outside of some minor flaws, there was never anything wrong with the TANG story.

How does she know that they were intented to be reconstructions? They were presented as real, which makes them forgeries.
Ah yes, fake but accurate. Since you weren’t willing to admit the former, why should we believe the latter? And, if you could tell the truth and make your case, why didn’t you?
    I know, bush=hitler.

Why is so much space wasted and given to CBNS silliness when in fact the big story as of yesterday is that ovezr 1000 America military have been killed and NO WMD found and the search closed down!
