: Roger Simon should sue Amazon. My “plog” (which disappears on its own, by the way) started this way today:

Jeffrey’s Plog Beta Monday, July 12, 2004

Weapons of Mass Distortion : The Coming Meltdown of the Liberal Media was released just 6 days ago on July 6, 2004; We thought you’d be interested because you bought Director’s Cut : A Moses Wine Novel.

Moses Wine, by smart man Roger Simon. Weapons of Mass Distortion by frightening self-appointed national nanny and religious fanatic and enemy of free speech and the First Amendment Brent Bozell. And what the hell made Amazon’s computers think these would go together?

  • anne.elk

It’s a relatively simple db query. Lots of folks who have bought Weapons of Mass Distortion have also bought Director’s Cut. I can see the similarity. Roger is quite the self-appointed national scold these days. And a fanatic against the Islamists and in his own charming way an enemy of free speech.
I can easily see the fans of Bozell being fans of Simon (and Totten, and Instahack, and you))
(‘sides which didn’t you say that no one is reading those books anyway, they just put them on the bookshelf for p* measuring?)

  • Mork

Try reading Roger Simon’s comment boxes.
Or, for that matter, his blog.
What is it with you people? Why are you all in denial about what you have become?

  • anne

Hey Mork, I did that tonight for the first time in months. It’s really very impressive. The ratio of simon dittoheads to dissenting voices is at least 100:1. That’s quite an echo chamber the simon has made for himself. He must have a very nicely fed ego now, but it has made for a very boring, predictable, useless, stereotyped, negative, snarky, uninteresting, groupthinked blog.
He should be proud of himself (and he is.)
    Feh.

Anne, I thought this was about Roger Simon. Who are you talking about?

  • http://www.starhawk.net Starhawk

Freedom of speech is about allowing speech you don’t agree with as well as that you do, even Amazon’s.
Perhaps it is it you who are the nanny who should mind your own business.

Are all media watchdog groups enemies of free speech, or just Bozell? Or is there more to Bozell that I don’t know about?

  • chuck

Gosh, the mesquitos are out. Big enough to stand flat footed an f*ck turkeys.
Just keeping the debate at its current level.

  • Jane.Moose

Funny… My Amazon this morning said…. If you liked “Confessions of a Braindead Internet Harpy,” you might like the forthcoming “Men is from Mars and Anne.Elk is from Pluto.”
BTW, anne, if you think these people have gone so far of the deep end, why do you keep reading them?

  • http://hubris.typepad.com Hubris

boring, predictable, useless, stereotyped, negative, snarky, uninteresting, groupthinked
Funny you should choose those words anne, a certain someone’s comments always make me think of those adjectives. Projection, perhaps?
Didn’t you get banned from Simon’s blog or something?

  • anne.elk

Actually no, he conjured up a bogus claim and then told me I was no longer welcome, and asked me not to come back, and so I left. I can still post there and have from time to time.

  • anne

Well Jane.Moose, I read them from time to time because a) I try to keep an open mind and allow myself to be persuaded, b) if you don’t listen to those who disagree with you, you’ll never know what you yourself may be wrong about, c) it’s good to know what the other side is saying, and d) sometimes the project build takes 20 minutes to f’n long because the network is sucking and it’s too d*mn late to do anything else but surf the net.
But I do understand Jane.Moose how hard it is for you to listen to anyone that doesn’t agree with you. I know Rogerer feels the same way.

  • Angus Jung

“I try to keep an open mind and allow myself to be persuaded”
Ah, nothing like a good laugh in the morning! ;)

Coincidentally, I’m hearing Bozell talking in an interview on my local radio station at this very minute. He hasn’t brought up religion once, and he hasn’t said anything that sounds anti-free speech. He’s complained about media obsessing over certain stories, and other bias issues. But that’s a far cry from being anti-free speech — isn’t it?
Does anybody have a link to him being anti-free speech or against the first amendment?

  • Michael Yonce

I just added BuzzMachine to my “daily scan” list within the last week and today you’re going to the bit bucket, after the Bozell comments and their attendant blood-flecked spittle. A new record!
It’s difficult for a conservative to take steps to prevent “rotting in the stink of our own reflection” (Herbert) when this is the level of comment we must sift through in the vain search for fact-based counterargument.

  • http://www.elflife.com/ carsonfire

Oh, I see! He’s gone on to the subject of decency in media… and that’s Mr Jarvis’ big pet peeve, and so explains the “religious fanatic and enemy of free speech” comment.

  • Dexter Westbrook

My plog urged me to buy Robert McNamara’s new book because I have previously bought “Triumph of the Will.”
    McNamara=Hitler!

If you rate lots of stuff (compulsively) like I do, it seems to get more accurate. Though I do still sometimes get offered crappy card games just because I bought some Star Trek Uno cards (yes!) for a Trekker a few years ago.
It keeps disappearing ‘cos it’s in beta.

I was going to say why shouldn’t two kooks be associated with each other, but Mork beat me to it.

Ah, the personal grudges continue to flare up.
McClelland, Simon banned you, didn’t he?

  • http://myblahg.blogspot.com Robert McClelland

McClelland, Simon banned you, didn’t he?
    No, I wouldn’t let him.

McC slipped though Roger’s screens. Roger fixed his comment system. Now Roger gives McC some rope because Roger is a nice guy.

  • Sortelli

I dunno, last I saw of Robert was a bunch of people getting furious over one of his typically classy posts which apparently had been deleted by the time I got there.
By the way, what’s the proper response to anne.elk’s parade of snarky, picky sniping at Jeff for being what she calls a snarky picky sniper? Or Mork’s “you people” comment? Laughter? Sadness? Aghast at the tragic irony? I have a hard time digesting the ridiculousness of it all.

    Pity.

Tsk tsk Jeff. Smearing anyone you disagree with as a “religious fanatic”- just smacks of the McCarthyite tactics you liberals always decry.
“The mote in thy own eye….”
Oops, I guess I’m a religious fanatic now!

When I went on yesterday, my plog said, “My LIfe by Bill Clinton is on sale! We thought you might be interested because you purchased Images of Beckett.”
    Huh?
